Book 1
Seventeen year old Hector Fishman doesn’t know why his small village, where a remanat still keep the Old Way, is one of the last five villages on earth. He doesn’t know why all who leave the village for the City never return, or why his parents left him behind when they took his dying sister there with the hope of saving her, or why his foster father, First Elder Judicael, refuses to supply any answers. He only knows that his childhood friend, Mia Fuller, understands his pain, and he loves her for it.
But when a beautiful visitor from the City appears in the village with news that Hector’s parents are captives in an ancient, cosmic war, a war against suffering and death itself, Hector leaves to bring his family home, promising Mia he will be the first to ever return. In the struggle that follows, where the fate of the world and everyone he loves hangs in the balance, Hector finds there are battles that cannot be won and adversaries that cannot be defeated with any weapons made by man.
